Manila Ropes - Strength
Minimum breaking strength and safe load of manila 3-strand rope.
Manila rope is made from the fibers of the abaca plant - "musa testilus" - Manila hemp.

Example - Maximum Safe Mass for a 3/8" Manila Rope
The relationship between mass and force (weight) can be expressed as
m = F / g (1)
where
F = force, weight (N)
m = mass (kg)
g = acceleration of gravity (9.81 m/s2)
Maximum safe mass for a 3/8" manila rope where safe load is 0.45 kN can be calculated as
m = (0.45 103 N) / (9.81 m/s2)
= 45.9 kg
