A plumbing or sanitation code is a set of rules and regulations imposed by cities, counties or states.
Anyone doing work on

- sewer or toilet facilities systems

- factories
- schools
- hospitals
are responsible to make the work in a specific safe manner to avoid accidents and spread of disease.

The codes are adopted and altered by the local authorities to fit local needs.
Throughout the world different countries and jurisdictions have their local or common (as within EU) set of codes for different type of work. For the engineer it is always necessary to check and adapt to the local regime.
