PETE 1)
Polyethylene Terephthalate Ethylene - used for soda, soft drink, water, juice, water, detergent, cleaner and peanut butter bottles and containers
HDPE 1)
High Density Polyethylene - used in opaque plastic milk and water jugs and bottles, bleach, detergent and shampoo bottles and some plastic bags. Oil and motor oil bottles and toys
PVC or V 2)
Vinyl or Polyvinyl Chloride - used for food or cling wrap, some plastic squeeze bottles, cooking oil and peanut butter jars, detergent and window cleaner bottles, vegetable oil bottles, blister packages, window cleaner bottles
LDPE 1)
Low Density Polyethylene - used in grocery store plastic bags, most plastic shrink wraps and some bottles, garment bags, fixible film packaging
PP 1)
Polypropylene - used in refrigerated containers, some bags, most bottle tops, some carpets, most Rubbermaid, deli soup, syrup and yogurt containers, straws and other clouded plastic containers, including baby bottles, yogurt tubs, straws
PS 2)
Polystyrene - used in Styrofoam food trays, carry-out containers, egg cartons, disposable cups and bowls, carry-out containers and opaque plastic cutlery, throwaway utensils, meat packaging
Others
Usually layered or mixed plastics - can not be recycled. Often polycarbonate - used in most plastic baby bottles, water bottles, metal food can liners, clear plastic sippy cups and some clear plastic cutlery. Bio-based plastics may be labeled #7.
