Mapping scales - Converting table length and area - example 1:100

The scale of a drawing is 1:100.

The 1:X factor according the table is 1.0 m/cm. 1 cm in the drawing equals

(1 cm) (1.0 m/cm) = 1 m

in the real.

Example - Mapping Scale 1:10000

The scale of a map is 1:10000.

The 1:X factor according the chart is 0.1 km/cm. 1 cm in the map equals

(1 cm) (0.1 km/cm) = 0.1 km

in the real.

Example - 0.1 miles/inch vs. scale and m/cm

As illustrated in the figure below 0.1 miles/inch corresponds to scale ≈ 1: 6300 and ≈ 63 m/cm.
