The Golden Section or Golden Mean, is an irrational proportion defined as a line cut in such a way that

  • the ratio between the smaller section to the greater, is like
  • the ratio of the greater section to the whole line

The Golden Section can be expressed as

AB/BC = BC/AC    (1)

The ratio of the two lengths is called phi - Φ = 1.618
