Equations when fluids are mixed:
m = m1 + m2 + ... + mn (1)
where
m = final mass (kg, lb)
m1..n = mass of substances
t = (m1 c1 t1 + m2 c2 t2 + ... + mn cn tn) / (m1 c1 + m2 c2 + ... + mn cn) (2)
where
t = final temperature (oC, oF)
c1..n = specific heat of substances (kJ/kg.oC, Btu/lb.oF)
t1..n = temperatures of substances (oC, oF)
10 kg of water at 10 oC is mixed with 2 kg water at 100 oC. The final temperature of the mixture can be calculated as
t = ((10 kg) (4.2 kJ/kg.oC) (10 oC) + (2 kg) (4.2 kJ/kg.oC) (100 oC)) / ((10 kg) (4.2 kJ/kg.oC) + (2 kg) (4.2 kJ/kg.oC))
= 25 oC
